{"id":117,"date":"2007-07-31T16:11:59","date_gmt":"2007-07-31T16:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.the-finance-zone.co.uk\/uncategorized\/homebuilding-market-subdued\/"},"modified":"2007-07-31T16:11:59","modified_gmt":"2007-07-31T16:11:59","slug":"homebuilding-market-subdued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/the-finance-zone.co.uk\/index.php\/2007\/07\/31\/homebuilding-market-subdued\/","title":{"rendered":"Homebuilding market &#8211; &#8216;subdued&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<table width=\"152\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" class=\"MsoNormalTable\">\n<tr>\n<td style=\"padding: 0cm\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\">The UK housing market is slowing as interest rates begin to cut deeep, the UK&#8217;s biggest homebuilder has said.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\">Taylor Wimpey &#8211; formed by the merger of George Wimpey and Taylor Woodrow &#8211; said though the market was &#8220;subdued&#8221;, conditions remained \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcstable\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\">It said that short-term conditions in the struggling US housing market &#8220;remained difficult to predict&#8221;, but it was confident for the longer haul. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\">The firm saw pre-tax profits of \u00c2\u00a3259m in the six months to 30 June. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\">Shares climbed 5% as it revealed it had found an additional \u00c2\u00a330m in cost savings from the merger and announced plans for a \u00c2\u00a3750m share buyback. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\">Taylor Wimpey said that it would concentrate on forward selling as it tried to beat the tough trading environment, with its order book 5% ahead of last year. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\">UK interest rates have risen five times since August 2006 and now stand at 5.75%, pushing up the cost of mortgages. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: \"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK housing market is slowing as interest rates begin to cut deeep, the UK&#8217;s biggest homebuilder has said.
