{"id":244,"date":"2008-08-26T13:40:49","date_gmt":"2008-08-26T13:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.the-finance-zone.co.uk\/?p=244"},"modified":"2008-08-26T13:40:49","modified_gmt":"2008-08-26T13:40:49","slug":"dollar-increases-against-the-euro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/the-finance-zone.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/08\/26\/dollar-increases-against-the-euro\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar increases against the euro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"first\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The dollar has climbed back to a six-month high against the euro, as continuing fears about the European economy hit the single currency.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With a key German business sentiment survey posting its worst reading in three years, the euro fell as low as $1.4571 in Tuesday trading.<\/p>\n<p>Data showing that the German economy contracted from April to June, also increased European recession fears.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the pound fell to $1.8331, its lowest point since July 2006. <!-- E SF --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deteriorating outlook <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-finance-zone.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/moneyexchange.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-245 alignright\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"moneyexchange\" src=\"http:\/\/www.the-finance-zone.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/moneyexchange.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a>&#8220;The German [business confidence] number suggests that the risk of a full-blown recession in Germany is rising as the last time the number plunged to this level, Germany was in recession,&#8221; said analyst Dustin Reid of ABN AMRO in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>The US currency has benefited as the economic outlook has darkened in both mainland Europe and the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Investment guru Warren Buffett said last week that he had no bets against the dollar &#8211; underscoring the currency&#8217;s strength.
